Scooters

50% longer bottom timeOne of the major benefits of riding around on a scooter is you're not doing any work, so your air can last up to 50 percent longer, effectively doubling your dive time! Scooters, also known as DPV's, are best used for covering large areas. They are excellent for underwater inspection, search and recovery operations, and exploration. Scooters give you the ability to navigate around the perimeter of a large object, dive sites from shore that were previously unreachable, or visit multiple sites during the same dive. On average, their top speed ranges from two to three miles per hour, although ultimate speed depends on the diver's size and streamlining. Scooters are quite easily maneuvered, and can be turned left, right, up, down, and even completely around without trouble. However, they can be difficult to park (especially if there is a strong current) so you can't easily stop and inspect small areas unless you have a partner to hold your scooter.Because you are doing less work, you'll want to manage your speed so the scooter doesn't run out of battery power before you run out of air. Also, because you are inactive and water is constantly running over your body, you'll need wear more to avoid getting cold sooner. Be aware that a dry suit will cause more drag than a wetsuit, so you will not be able to go quite as fast. Mounting a depth gauge on the body of your scooter (where you can easily monitor your depth), is also a wise decision considering how easily scooters are maneuvered up and down.
